God is spirit.
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
When we look in the mirror, we see how the world views who we are, but the truth is we are far more than that human persona. We are even far more than the content of our character, or the list of accomplishments that populate our latest job resume. We are spirit beings like God; however, at the moment we are living inside human bodies. Do you feel like you are more than the world sees? You should, because you are. Your spirit is your connection to God.
“The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.” Proverbs 20:27
The spirit that lives inside our human bodies is illuminated by God with a constant source of heavenly guidance. Our free will allows us to follow the light of God or turn our back on God and follow the path provided by this world. If we are being honest, our spirit clearly knows the difference between God’s path and this world’s path. In the end, our human bodies will be left in the dust of this world and our spirit will return to God.
“The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7
This world wants us to believe that wisdom comes from our experiences in this life, and while there is some truth in that understanding, the ultimate source of all wisdom comes from our spirit connection to God. This world wants us to believe everything of value is in the here and now. God wants us to understand that everything of value is found in our spirit connection to God.
“But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.” Job 32:8
The real value in our life here in this world is found in our connection to God. In the eternal world of our spirit existence, great material wealth, endless lustful pleasure, and enormous worldly power, are completely useless and empty. These worldly goals will be left in the dust with our human bodies when our spirit returns to be with God. All we will take with us are those things generated by our spirit connection to God.
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
It is your spirit connection to God that fuels a never ending reservoir of eternal wealth. We all have the opportunity to be rich beyond measure when we respond to others out of sincere love, share a joy-filled spirit, seek to bring peace in all circumstances, offer understanding and kindness, choose to do good, remain faithful, respond to others with a caring helpful hand, and remain in complete control of our emotions. That is God’s formula for success and the blueprint for precisely how to connect with the Spirit of God.
Your bank account does not define you. You are the sum total of your spirit connection to God. Your worldly accomplishments do not define you. How you treat others is the true measure of your character. Mistakes you’ve made in the past do not define you. Everything from this moment forward generated from your spirit connection to God, is the only thing that matters and ultimately will be enormously more rewarding than anything this world has to offer.
It is our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that brings our spirit connection to God alive. Praise God for sending His Son! Praise God for providing us with a clear path to eternal life with Him. Praise God for His great love.
“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19
