When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, things change. We are no longer struggling through life on our own; we’ve started a new relationship with the Creator of the universe. Our faith in Jesus renders us a child of God. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are told “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” As followers of Jesus, our mission in life is to serve God through the power He provides and through the direction of the Holy Spirit living inside of all believers. God’s most cherished desire is for us to have an intimate relationship with him based on trust. The quality of that relationship fully depends on our willingness to surrender to God.
Unfortunately, we have an enemy that wants to push us off in the wrong direction. We have an enemy who constantly uses lies and distractions to disrupt our relationship with God. Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused on our service to God when this world is telling us we need to earn more money, or reach other worldly goals. It’s easy to get caught up in the everyday struggle of life and miss opportunities to further our relationship with God. When we feel overwhelmed by this world, we need to stop and remember that God is with us. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” We need to let go of the desires of this world and trust that God will provide.
We can’t forget the simple truth that our relationship with God is the most important aspect of our lives. Unless we surrender fully to God, we will not experience His love completely. If we our holding back our full commitment by keeping one foot in this world, we have lost our way. We read in Galatians 5:24 “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” We can’t let the enemy tell us that the things of this world are more important than our walk with God. We have to put our worldly goals in the background and focus on our ultimate goal to serve God by serving others.
When we fully surrender to God, we grow closer to Him. The stronger our relationship is with God the more powerful we are in our impact with those around us. We can accomplish far more with God’s help than we can ever do on our own. 1 Corinthians 3:9 tells us “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” God is counting on us to assist in his work and we can only accomplish that task when we fully surrender to His direction.
My prayer is that we all find a way to move closer to God today. The Bible tells us that nothing is more important to God than our love and devotion. The Bible also tells us that we love because He first loved us. Indeed, the source of our love for others comes from God. Unless we surrender completely to Him, we will be missing out on the full measure of the awesome power of His never-ending love. There is no question that we all drift away occasionally; therefore, it’s important for us all too carefully evaluate our connection with God each and every day.
