Serving God by Serving Others Together

The body of Christ is many parts joined together to from the whole (Ephesians 4:16).  With Christ as the head, believers fit together like parts in a sophisticated Swiss watch, each playing an important role and contributing based on their talents (Ephesians 4:11-12).  With the Holy Spirit inside every believer, we are each connected directly to the power of God.  Working together, we are like a number of batteries linked together in series to increase the voltage.  Serving God by serving others together as a team insures greater impact from increased capabilities and multiplied power.

Road Trip for God

Most of us have found memories of jumping into the car with a group of friends and taking off down the road for a fun adventure.  Sometimes we don’t even need a preplanned destination – just sharing the travel experience with friends is all we need.  Often, the trip is better than the destination.  There’s an undeniable energy when you’re together with like-minded people.  As followers of Jesus Christ, we all have left this world behind and are joined together on a trip that leads to eternal bliss.  We are on the ultimate road trip with God.  Along the way, some of our most memorable experiences will be those shared moments serving God by serving others as a team.  You might be a member of a small group at church or you may simply gather together a group of dedicated believers who want to serve.  However you come together, there’s no question the experience helping others will make your friendship stronger and develop your skills for greater service down the road.

Romans 15:5-6  (NASB)

“Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Serving God by Serving Others is Teamwork

We can do a lot in service to God individually.  We serve God by taking care of family and helping those we come into contact with on a daily basis.  I believe an argument could be made that we serve God by taking care of ourselves, since we are God’s creation, and we glorify Him by properly maintaining His treasure (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).  Even when we are serving God by serving others individually, we work as a team with God who provides us with all that we have to give.  However, larger projects require extra hands, extra capacity, and extra skills that we may not have.  When it’s time to hit the streets to help the homeless, or take on a yard cleanup project for an elderly church member, or help a family move – it’s time to build a team.  The beautiful thing about working together as a team is you will not only be helping those in need with the service you provide, you will also be helping each other.  Serving God by serving others as a team, is your chance to share the talents God has given you, provide support to those working with you, and deliver assistance where it is needed.  Everything is multiplied when you work as a team; including the joy felt by sharing God’s love with others.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NASB)

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
