Redemption is the process of releasing someone from slavery by paying a ransom. God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt. Believers in Jesus Christ are delivered from the slavery of sin and the penalty of death by his sacrificial death. Our redemption cancels out God’s judgment against our disobedience and frees us from the bondage imposed on us by the enemy.
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7
Praise God! As followers of Jesus Christ, we walk with full confidence in our salvation. And we have a duty as believers to share our victory over evil with others. Our lives should be a glowing beacon guiding others to the safe harbor of salvation. This expression of our faith does not have to be in aggressive speech or challenging debate; we can express our faith in the manner in which we live. When we center our lives on serving others, rather than selfishly focusing on ourselves, we are displaying the love of God that Jesus taught is central to our faith. When others express an interest in knowing where our source of love is coming from, we need to be ready to enthusiastically share the gospel.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16
Jesus taught that believers are to be salt and light in the world. Our lives should be a reflection of his teaching; otherwise, we are in essence tasteless and devoid of illumination – undesirable and of no value.
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16
Our gift of salvation bestows upon us a purpose. That purpose is to share God’s love. We are to seek and save the lost. We do that when we express the full flavor of the teachings of Jesus by living in such a manner that is clearly filled by the spirit of God. In addition, our expression of love for others shines a bright light on the spirit of God that lives in our heart. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Let your life shout the victory you have received through your faith in Jesus Christ.
