The fundamental, foundational truth of Christianity is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus conquered death and it is our faith in this fact that transfers that power of eternal life onto us. The eyewitness accounts of the empty tomb are not fictional stories, they are astonishing truth and absolute confirmation of our salvation through Jesus Christ.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:5-6
The resurrection of Jesus defeated once and for all, the power of death over humans. Our death sentence, as a result of our misdeeds, was absolved when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. The enemy no longer has power over the believer. Victory is ours when we place our trust in Jesus.
“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 1 Corinthians 15:54
Righteousness, and the gift of eternal life with Jesus, is only possible when sin is removed from our lives. God has made us aware of our sin through His Word. God has also supplied us with an avenue of escape through His Son Jesus Christ. We achieve righteousness through our faith in Jesus. Our victory over death has nothing to do with our actions and everything to do with God’s grace and his enormous love for His Creation.
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:56-57
Powered by the Holy Spirit, followers of Jesus celebrate their victory over death by serving others with the love he provides. When we serve others with love, we are serving God. Our victory over death is a gift from God that can be transferred to others when we share the gospel with those who are seeking truth. Jesus is alive! Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God waiting for the moment when he will return to earth to establish his kingdom. Hallelujah! Amen!
