Revive Us

This was a live broadcast, hosted by actor Kirk Cameron, presented in theaters across America previous to the 2016 presidential election.  The goal was to revive the faith-filled roots of America and encourage people of faith to vote.  It is reported that 25 million people of faith did not vote in the previous election and that only 5 million votes determined the election results; therefore, people of faith can be a determining factor if they all get out and vote.  No candidate is promoted, only the concept that people of faith founded our country and that faith seems to be dwindling away.  Viewers are inspired by a collection of guest speakers who make suggestions about why and how America’s faith can be revived.

The first guest is renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson.  Dr. Carson speaks eloquently about the need for Christian revival in America suggesting that our collective faith is in critical condition.  Dr. Carson goes on to encourage America to return to God by turning to the Word of God and standing firm on those values.

Eric Metaxas is interviewed next at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.  Eric wrote a book titled “If You Can Keep It: The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty,” in which he describes how faith played a significant role in the founders’ vision for liberty and justice.  This is the topic discussed in this segment.

Next, Kirk sits down with Pastor James MacDonald, from Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and Pastor Francis Chan the former teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, California, now the founder of “We Are Church,” a collection of home churches in the San Francisco, California area.  Both pastors discuss with Kirk the precise meaning of faith as described in the Bible.

Author and speaker Jennifer Rothschild delivers a powerful exhortation on her vision of the church in America. Jennifer lost her sight at the age of 15 due to a rare form of the degenerative eye disease known as Retinitis Pigmentosa.  In her book “Lessons I Learned in the Dark: Steps to Walking by Faith, Not by Sight,” Jennifer provides spiritual lessons on giving God control, trusting in His will, preserving through hardship, and being guided by the truth.  This is essentially the message she delivers in this presentation.

“Revive Us,” is seasoned with some great live music dispersed throughout the program and ends in several minutes of prayer.  This is an inspirational event that focuses on the need for a reconnection with America’s faith roots and indeed our own personal connection to God. While this event was designed and directed specifically to an American audience, it provides food for thought to all people who are living in a culture that has giving way to a predominately secular progressive point of view.  People of faith everywhere need to stand up and proclaim the importance of turning back to God.
