God’s enormous, eternal, gratuitous love is vividly demonstrated in the sacrifice of His Son on our behalf. Our selfish desires separate us from God. When we put our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus, we turn our back on our old human nature and are born again into a new life guided by the Holy Spirit residing in our heart.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20
God’s all-encompassing love fills us up to overflowing. God’s love is a warm blanket of protection that covers us in times of turmoil, distress, persecution, and in all of our daily struggles. This love cannot be extinguished and renders us victorious over everything the enemy throws at us. As followers of Jesus, we are securely held in His everlasting love which no conceivable event can diminish.
“But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and rose again on the third day after which he ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God. Those who have been baptized by faith in Jesus have also left their old selfish persona behind and are now a completely new creation. Our mission as believers is to shine the light of truth on this world so that all may have the opportunity to rest in the loving arms of God.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
We need to dedicate our lives to reaching out to those lost in this world, those who are afraid to turn toward the light for fear of not measuring up. We are all lost and broken. None of us are any better than any other. All are welcome. All can be washed clean by God’s overwhelming love.
