How Jesus Saves

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1

God created the earth and everything in it, including you and me.  That simple statement is an enormous accomplishment that is absolutely impossible for simple human intelligence to fully comprehend.  Everything in the universe, including the earth, the mountains, the oceans, the trees, plants, animals, fish, birds, and all the other things that weren’t man made were created by God.  Human beings can’t make a seed that grows into a towering oak tree.  Human beings can’t build another human being from scratch.  Human beings can’t control the movement of our solar system.  God can do all these things and much more.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”  Genesis 1:27

Human beings have a similar personality to God, because God made us to be like Him.  God loves like we do. God gets angry like we do. But God is not at all like us; we are like Him.  God is spirit.  God is not confined to one place – God is everywhere at all times.  God can be inside you and inside me while at the same time being inside another believer on the other side of the earth.  God’s spirit fills the universe.  Until we have established a connection to the Spirit of God, we are incomplete.  God designed us this way so that we can grow and develop through personal experience rather than being forced into conformity by His will.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12

We are connected to God when we make a decision to follow His teaching rather than live life solely for our own selfish desires.  This process starts by loving God as our Creator.  The second and final step is to take the love that God placed in our heart and share it with others.  The ultimate fulfillment of our connection to God is to demonstrate our love for Him and our love for others every moment of every day; however, the enemy of God makes this humanly impossible.  This enemy of God is far more powerful than humans; but God has given us a way to overcome the enemy.

“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.”  Hebrews 1:3

In order to demonstrate beyond any doubt that God has complete power over the enemy, God came to earth in the form of a man known as Jesus.  Jesus was a human being just like you and me; however he was also completely and fully filled with the spirit of God.  Jesus is the one man who was able to live a life dedicated to demonstrating God’s love all day every day.  It was God’s enemy who orchestrated the lies that sent Jesus to the cross to be crucified.  This was all part of God’s plan to demonstrate beyond any doubt that He has complete power over the enemy and over death.  The grave was not able to hold Jesus.  Jesus came back to life three days later and was encountered by hundreds of people who reported this miraculous event.   This astounding miracle convinced thousands, millions, and billions of people to follow the teachings of Jesus – love God and love your neighbor.  But there’s more…

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9

God promises that those who love Him and follow the teachings of Jesus will also have the power to overcome the enemy and have victory over death.  This is why Jesus is called the Savior; because He is able to save us from death.  One day, Jesus will return to earth and destroy the enemy of God that tempts us with our own selfish desires.  On that day, true believers of Jesus will be able to live forever filled with the love that God provides.  Jesus Saves.
