God in Your Life

I think we can all agree that the world we live in today can be a hostile place for followers of Jesus.  There are a lot of public figures who tend to deny God’s hand in our lives.  Sometimes the people we work with or go to school with, are openly hostile to Christian thought.   Secular music, movies, television, and other forms of entertainment often celebrate human accomplishment rather than acknowledging God’s hand in everything that we do.  It’s not hard to understand how some believers can lose sight of the divine and miraculous.

Maybe that’s not you.  Maybe you see God working in your life every day and acknowledge him with prayers of thanksgiving.  Or maybe you’re like me, and sometimes get so caught up in this world that you miss some of the things God has done for you.  Even if that’s not you, there’s a good chance you know someone who’s lost sight of God.  It might be a good idea to take a few minutes to figure out how we can help others find God working in their lives.  At the same time, there’s a good chance we might stumble on some of the things God has done for us that we somehow missed.

Three Places to Look for God in Your Life

Of course, God is in every aspect of our lives, but there are three distinctive circumstances where God stands out for most people.  These three areas are a demonstration of God’s awesome power and his divine nature.  Ironically, that’s the reason these events can sometimes be overlooked.  In this world, the unexplainable is often dismissed as random chance; however, in God’s world there is no such thing as random chance.

“The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”  Proverbs 16:33

Luck & Coincidence

Every stroke of luck that falls in our favor is the direct result of God’s hand.  Likewise, many of the extraordinary things that we explain away as being coincidence are also God’s handiwork. When a solution to a problem shows up out of nowhere at just the right time, that is God working in our life.

Rising from the Ashes

Most of us have gone through a difficult struggle at some point in our life.  When we look back at our most difficult encounters and consider how we were able to cope, the answer is always God.  We are able to overcome difficult times because God is on our side pointing the way forward.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

Unexpected Victory

Did you ever get a check in the mail that you weren’t expecting?  Did you ever get a job promotion that you weren’t expecting?  Did you ever pass a test that you were sure you were going to fail?  Throughout our lives we are occasionally blessed with unexpected victory.  Sometimes, out of nowhere, God will step in and provide us with precisely what we need.  These kinds of events are hard to miss and for most of us, our first response is to praise God.  God is the ultimate surprise gift provider.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”  James 1:17

Certificate of Authentication

Our God is the ultimate example of humility.  He doesn’t sign his work.  There is no certificate of authentication for God’s achievements in our life; however, with careful consideration we can all look back on our lives and identify the divine and miraculous events that can only be attributed to God.  God is at work in our lives every day.  Even those who are not yet followers of Jesus are being guided toward the truth by God every day.  Everything God does on our behalf is intended to be guidance.  Our mission, when we see God working in our life, is to follow his instruction and move forward on the path he has provided.
